Aussie Bird Count 2026

Aussie Bird Count 2026

Spend 20 minutes counting the birds around you during the Aussie Bird Count 2026! Join Australians nationwide from 19–25 October and contribute to citizen science while discovering your local birdlife.

Take 20 minutes to discover the birds in your backyard! 🐦

The Aussie Bird Count is back for 2026, inviting Australians everywhere to connect with nature while contributing to one of the country’s largest citizen science initiatives.

From 19–25 October 2026, spend just 20 minutes observing and counting the birds around you. Whether you’re in your backyard, on your balcony, at school or exploring a local park, everyone can take part. No birdwatching experience is needed, just a little curiosity and a love for nature!

Organised by BirdLife Australia, the annual Aussie Bird Count encourages people of all ages to learn more about the birds sharing their local environment while contributing valuable observations to citizen science.

Last year, more than 64,000 participants counted over five million birds across Australia. This year, BirdLife Australia hopes to make the Count even bigger.
