Join renowned ornithologist Dr Richard Noske for a fascinating exploration of one of Australia’s most intelligent and charismatic native birds at the Friday Environment Forum on 14 August 2026.
After completing his PhD at the University of New England, Richard spent 26 years teaching biology at Charles Darwin University. A respected researcher and author, he has published numerous scientific papers, books and educational resources on the birds of Australia and Indonesia. Richard also served as President of Birds Queensland and is currently Chief Editor of Sunbird.
Despite being a familiar sight across suburban southeast Queensland, the Blue-faced Honeyeater has received surprisingly little scientific attention. Richard’s fascination with these birds began just two years ago when he discovered a group of six Blue-faced Honeyeaters nesting only 100 metres from his home. Since then, he has been uncovering the complex behaviours, intelligence and social dynamics of this remarkable species.
This engaging presentation will offer fresh insights into the lives of these colourful honeyeaters and reveal why they deserve far more recognition than their noisier relatives.
Whether you’re a keen birdwatcher, nature enthusiast or simply curious about the wildlife in your own backyard, this is a talk not to be missed.
