Glossy Habitat Planting Day

Glossy Habitat Planting Day

Help restore habitat for the Glossy Black Cockatoo at this community planting day at Tuan Environmental Reserve. Learn about Glossy identification, feed trees and acoustic monitoring while contributing to local conservation.

Join the Glossy Black Conservancy for a Community Planting Day at Tuan Environmental Reserve on Sunday 3 May 2026.

This hands-on event invites community members to roll up their sleeves and help restore critical habitat for the Glossy Black Cockatoo by planting native species that support their specialised diet and survival.

Participants will meet at 133 Platz Rd, Kenilworth QLD, which will be the starting point for the planting activities within the reserve.

Alongside planting future Glossy habitat, participants will learn about conservation efforts currently underway to better understand and protect these remarkable birds.

During the morning you’ll learn about:

  • Glossy Black Cockatoo identification – how to distinguish Glossies from other black cockatoos, determine age and gender, and recognise signs of feeding

  • Feed-tree specialisation – why Glossy Black Cockatoos rely on very specific food trees and why these plantings are so important

  • Acoustic monitoring research – how sound recording technology is helping researchers better understand Glossy populations and behaviour

This event is perfect for nature lovers, families, students and anyone interested in conservation and the environment.

Come along, connect with your community, contribute to local habitat restoration and enjoy a morning surrounded by the natural beauty of Tuan.
