This year Noosa Biosphere Reserve Foundation attended Kids in Action for the first time where the vibes were high and the future sure feels bright! While we were there, we caught up with youth leader and environmental conservationist Spencer Hitchen. For the first time the 2026 event happened to fall on Spencer’s “World Stand Up for Nature” Day, and he shared how young people can make their own pledge to stand up for nature. Watch our wrap video here or below to hear from Spencer, and see the day in action.
Our Noosa Biosphere youth representative Jarrah Small was also there as a youth leader and did an incredible job emceeing, and engaging students with her interactive display. She shared all about the wildlife living in the deep depths of our ocean including the angler fish who uses bioluminescence to help catch prey, and the kite fin shark who’s belly glows with bioluminescence which was only discovered in 2020! Her display also highlighted the impact of plastic pollution on our oceans and showed how easy it is to swap out single-use plastics in everyday life.
It was a brilliant first Kids in Action for Noosa Biosphere, and we’re already looking forward to being back on the ground with these young change makers next year!
