We celebrated two local heroes at this year’s Noosa Electorate Queensland Day Awards 2021 for their contribution to the Noosa Biosphere.
Bob Carey is Noosa’s most widely known Glossy Black-Cockatoo conservationist and educator. He has volunteered his time for over 30 years to educate school children about Noosa’s unique native species, including koalas, native plants and other fauna. He volunteers at the Sunshine Beach State School permaculture and native garden to teach children all about the importance of caring for nature. He also volunteers with numerous bush care groups and Noosa Integrated Catchment Association to maintain Noosa’s natural habitat.
‘Glossy Bob’ was instrumental in launching Noosa Biosphere Reserve Foundation’s inaugural fundraiser, the Black and Glossy Gala in 2020. He is a local legend and a real advocate for positive change. Thank you to our Executive Coordinator, Sharon for nominating Bob!
Rex Halverson was recognised for his contribution to the growth and success of Queensland Koala Crusaders and in recognition for his ongoing work in the community in particular as Chair of the Noosa Biosphere Reserve Foundation.
“Rex is often the man to put his hand up to set up, tear down and run stalls at events. He lives by example to work collaboratively and to lead a team and volunteers his time graciously. His contributions to QKC at a time of change within the organisation are invaluable and as President, he worked towards a healthy transition to new leadership.“ Meghan Halverson, QKC Ambassador.
