Bunya Dreaming 2026

Bunya Dreaming 2026

Bunya Dreaming 2026 is a free cultural celebration honouring the Bunya Tree, Indigenous knowledge and connection to Country at Ewen Maddock Dam on 31 January.

Bunya Dreaming is a bi-annual cultural gathering celebrating the iconic Bunya Tree and its deep cultural significance to Indigenous peoples of South East Queensland. Held on Country at Ewen Maddock Dam, this special day creates a space to connect, share knowledge, strengthen community and honour living culture.

The event provides an opportunity to learn about people’s connection to Country and their relationships with both the physical and spiritual landscape. Bunya Dreaming supports truth-telling, reciprocity and meaningful steps towards Reconciliation by bringing people together in a respectful, welcoming environment.

Activities throughout the day include Bunya feasting, bushfoods and bush medicine, cultural workshops, yarning, dance, ceremony, fire, challenges and community activities. The event is family-friendly, with all generations warmly welcomed to take part.

When you attend Bunya Dreaming, you become part of something special, a cultural gathering that has taken place on Country for thousands of years. The event acknowledges the resilience and dedication of Kabi Kabi ancestors in maintaining cultural connections and caring for Country, making it possible for this important cultural practice to continue today.

This is a drug and alcohol-free event, and to protect local wildlife and ensure community safety, dogs are not permitted.
